da jogodeouro: Newcastle United’s summer transfer window has followed a familiar pattern so far with Mike Ashley typically failing to splash the cash on new talent, and a recent report from the Daily Mail suggests the club could be about to let another ideal opportunity slip through their grasp.
da esoccer bet: According to the recent report, Manchester City’s teenage sensation, namely Lukas Nmecha, has emerged as a target for West Bromwich Albion, although Swansea City have offered terms to the 19-year-old.
The exact details of the offer are unclear from the report, but logic would suggest that he is the subject of a loan bid from the Swans rather than a permanent bid.
And although Newcastle look set to welcome Yoshinori Muto to the club subject to a work-permit, Rafa Benitez should join the race for the teenage sensation before he misses the chance to bring a striker with raw potential to St James’ Park.
Nmecha has been knocking on the door for a first-team opportunity at Man City in the last two seasons, and it’s only the extent of the quality which Pep Guardiola has available to him at centre-forward which has prevented him from breaking through.
The German-born attacker scored 20 goals from 19 appearances in all-competitions for the club last season, including 15 from 11 for the reserve team.
With a record as scintillating as that it’s no wonder the likes of Swansea and West Brom are expressing an interest in Nmecha’s services, and his poachers finish during a pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich has served to intensify rumours linking him with a summer loan move.
Naturally, signing Nmecha would represent a risk for Benitez considering he has virtually no previous experience at senior level, but a loan deal would represent nothing more than a drop in the ocean in financial terms so it’s certainly a gamble worth taking.
With a natural eye for the back of the net, the desire to play off the shoulder of the last defender and plenty of pace to burn, Nmecha could be a huge asset for the Magpies next season if Benitez is able to hijack Swansea’s bid.
